February 14, 2010 - Universal Motown artist Erykah Badu has released "Window Seat," the lead single from her upcoming album NEW AMERYKAH PART TWO: RETURN OF THE ANKH. The track is now available at iTunes and erykahbadu.com. The multi-platinum-selling, Grammy-winning singer-songwriter-producer-actress' highly anticipated fifth studio album, NEW AMERYKAH PART TWO: RETURN OF THE ANKH, will be released on 3-30-2010 AD (3.3.3).
"Window Seat" was produced by Erykah Badu and James Poyser with Ahmir "?uestove" Thompson from The Roots on drums. Together, they represent 3/10 of the SOULQUARIANS hip-hop music collective. With lyrics like, "If anybody speak to Scotty, tell him beam me up… I just want a ticket out of town to look around," Vibe.com describes "Window Seat" as a throwback soul groove that's driven by a live jazz bassline (a theme throughout NEW AMERYKAH PT. II). The smooth sound of the infectious single—which Okayplayer.com hails as a "mellowed out anthem" for railway commuters, frequent flyers, and bus riders—coaxes listeners to sit back and enjoy the ride.
In contrast to 2008's New Amerykah, Part One: 4th World War, which was digitally produced and political in tone, NEW AMERYKAH PART TWO: RETURN OF THE ANKH features lush live instrumentation and taps into Badu's emotional side by thematically focusing on romance and relationships. "With Part One, I was standing at an apex, looking at what was going on around me politically, socially, and economically," Badu explained. "With PART TWO, I'm hovering over me, looking at what's going on inside of me."
