 GANGSTASPARTY.com: 1) Introduce us Donny Goines: Tell us a bit about your entrance in the RAP GAME..
DONNY GOINES: Well as far as my solo career I started professionally pursuing it back in January of 06. Before that tho, I was in a group that didn't materialize (the founding member became incarcerated) this was in 04. After that I kind of gave up on the idea, settled in a job and just lead a normal life. Stopped rapping and everything because I felt very disappointed about the group situation. One day because I was just bored I went the the video store to rent a movie. I picked up "Fade to Black" starring Jay Z and once that movie was over I wrote a song called "Inspiration". I haven't looked back since.
GANGSTASPARTY.com: 2) Describe us your style..
DONNY GOINES: My style varies honestly. I write depending on mood, music, and mindstate at the time. I cant really pinpoint anything particular style because I write about various topics and ideas, but if I had to narrow it down I would say my style is "Authentic" (I wont use the word real cause its such a cliche). What I mean by that is, I rap about things that are real to me.
GANGSTASPARTY.com: 3) Where do u get your inspiration from?
DONNY GOINES: My heart, situations I am going through, my past and the people. When I write music 90% of the time it is uncontrived and pure. I hear a beat and the words just flow. Its very natural. It like, almost like breathing to me at this point. You dont remind yourself "I have to breath now and take in air now" its just natural. Same with my writing. I usually just pull from things around me.
GANGSTASPARTY.com: 4) How did u meet B.Lamont?
DONNY GOINES: He was the first "industry" nigga that really showed me love and that my man right there. Long story short, in the very beginning of my career I was invited to a conference in Cali. I didn't know ANYBODY and I went by myself. I attended every panel and tried to network and learn as much as I could. During one panel in particular Bishop Lamont was speaking. At the time I was unaware of who he was. Other people on the panel included Mike Clarke (Swisha House), Kevin Black (Warner Exec), Kigh tech, Uncle Luke, and many more prominent figures in the business. There were also about 400 to 500 people. Kevin Black said something to the effect of "If I paid to attend this conference, I would have my music played" and I took the oppurtunity to call him on that. During the Q&A part at the end of the panel, I said "I dont really care about radio or whatever, just the opinon of my peers, can you please play my music in front of everyone" They looked at me like I was crazy but said yes. They played the first verse of one song called "New York, New York" (in all places Cali right lol?) They cut it off and Kevin Black asked the audeince and panel to rate the song 1-5. I got nothing less then a 3. Bishop said he respected my courage and liked the music. After the fact his brother came up and gave me his phone number. I meet his mother, took a pic and Ive been communicating with him ever since. He has really gave me great advice and has extend himself to try to help me and Im really gratful for that. I look at him as a peer, a mentor and family.
GANGSTASPARTY.com: 5) Tell us about your project titled "THE EXCERPT" PG. 1 .. and how was it borne?
DONNY GOINES: Its part one of a trilogy. If you noticed, Its called "The Excerpt" Pg. 1. In any book, the excerpt is a glimpse of the whole story. Page 1 represents "The Artist". Every single song in it has something to do with hip hop and the music. The ENTIRE project's subject matter is composed of thoughts and ideas pertaining to Hip Hop, the trials and tribulations of my career, views on others, etc. Its all progressive. From the start to this point in my life. Its not the WHOLE story, its just a preview of whats to come in the future.
