 GANGSTASPARTY.com: 1) First off, welcome back! ... so I'd like to ask u.. What do u like to remember about the beginning of your career?
SHANICE: '87 the recording of my first album, it was the first time in a studio, first album
my first everything it was so fresh and new it was so exciting, I didn't look at it as work it was just about singing and having fun. Now that I'm a business woman (which I enjoy) its not just about fun its about making the right business choices.
These days it's not just about talent, the business side is more business and not just being talented.
GANGSTASPARTY.com: 2) Would u like to change anything about it?
SHANICE: Not one thing. I feel like I wouldn't be where I am today if I didn't have my past experiences, everything was a learning process for me.
GANGSTASPARTY.com: 3) After 5 years.. Shanice is back on the music scene after 5-years with her new much-anticipated album titled "Every Woman Dreams"... What do u feel to say about it? What's the reason for this title? Who are the guests / producers?
SHANICE: I want women to never stop dreaming and to remember that in life anything is possible.
I worked with Producers PMG, Mike City, Jamey jazz, John Barnes and Budda. I had the opportunity to work with Sheila E she played percussion on "Get Up", Regina Carter played violin on "Chocolate" and Rain Wilson did spoken word on the interlude.
GANGSTASPARTY.com: 4) Where do u get your inspiration from (for this album) ?
SHANICE: The lyric to EWD came to me very quickly, Each song has on this album has a special place in my heart. My friend lost her life, she was with the wrong man (he murdered her) if she would have been with the right man I believe she would still be alive today. Her story inspired me to write a song letting women know not to settle for less because we deserve the best.
GANGSTASPARTY.com: 5) How would u describe this new style (new set of sexy songs) ?
SHANICE: The vocals are more soulful and more mature (I've matured over the last 6 yrs)
When I did I love your smile it was more teeny-bopper, I was young. Now you can hear in my music that I'm grown, (I'm a woman now)
GANGSTASPARTY.com: 6) Is there a cut that u prefer on the album and why?
SHANICE: It's hard to name just one. I enjoy them all.
GANGSTASPARTY.com: 7) After A&M Records, Motown, LaFace, and more.. now.. your own indie label called Imajah Records... Tell us about this new venture...
SHANICE: My husband and I started the label along with Playtyme Entertainment and I love it. I don't have a major label telling me who I need to be. I co- produced ½ the album and co-wrote on all but 2 songs. I feel like I can be who I really am as an artist.
GANGSTASPARTY.com: 8) Among your albums: Is there an album that u prefer? why?
SHANICE: I'll always remember my first album because it was the beginning of my career all exciting and new.
GANGSTASPARTY.com: 9) In your career, u have worked with more artists but .. Who's been your favourite artist you've worked with?
SHANICE:That's hard to say…I've been blessed to work with so many talented people. If I have to choose 1 person I'd have to say Kenny Loggins because he is very talented and very down to earth. I enjoy listening to his voice he can sing any kind of music and he does it well.
GANGSTASPARTY.com: 10) Have u planned a tour?
SHANICE:Definitely; I have a few things on the table (not confirmed yet) but, its looking promising, I'm just trying to find the right tour. Hopefully I'll be in your city soon.
GANGSTASPARTY.com: 11) Tell us something about your future projects
SHANICE:I'm getting ready to shoot my 2nd video with Billie Woodruff "Take Care of You" and I'm preparing to go on the road.
