GANGSTASPARTY.com: 1) how did begin start your career
HAVANA MENA: I could sit and lie, like some people would and say "oh I start by playing this or doing this at 10 months or something like that, but that's something I would have to force myself to believe. The truth is that I am blessed my parents are deeply rooted in the music business. My father is a very well respected latin musician and my mother's a very respected latin singer. So I guess you could say music is in my blood. I tried the piano thing when I was around 11 or 12 years old. Some things just come natural. …. I started rapping when I was 13 years old, to beats on a casio keyboard. I practiced everyday on the porch til it was time for me to take my first dive into studio recording. It was different, but fun. Just like any typical 13 year old I did it because I wanted to be rich and famous. Now that I'm older I still feel that way, that's just being real, but there is always a bigger picture and I'm just playing my role. You feel me.
GANGSTASPARTY.com: 2) what's your style?
HAVANA MENA: I can't really say what kind of style I have. I just do what I do. I would say I'm a good rapper. I don't pretend to be something I ain't,because people can't appreciate you if you ain't being you, being real. I take what I am and who I am and make it work. So I would just say my style is Havana Mena!
GANGSTASPARTY.com:3) Let me u know something about your collaborate with TV series "DARK ANGEL".. What u think about it?
HAVANA MENA: I had a song placed in the one of the show's episodes entitled "flush". The song that was place on the show was a song I am crazy about called " SLEEP TIGHT". The beat was right the flow was right, just everything. The way I found out was crazy, I was actually watching the show, and my manager called me and say's hey your song is gonna be on Dark Angel. I think I called everybody I knew. Funny thing, it aired at least 3 more times. You know I had to record the show.
GANGSTASPARTY.com: 4) Rapper and actress, What Do you prefer?
HAVANA MENA: Naturally I'm a rap artist. It's in my heart, I've done some acting in small plays, so anybody reading this and wants my service holla at bignak, that's my manager.
GANGSTASPARTY.com: 5) tell me something about your album "How much you want me" (debut at # 11 on billboard's top 100 rap singles) and how was it borne?
HAVANA MENA: Ah mannnnn!! How much you want me was my first studio recorded album. That was the title of my single as well as the album. The album was fun.Didn't take me that long to do it either. Everything was right. "How much you want me" the single was a hard hitting, ass-kicking song. That was like I dear a bitch to do anything. That beat and the song was enough to tear another hole in your ass. In the first week it debut at #11. I was even getting air-play in Japan. It's was charting high for a while. It caught the attention of some executive heads, hence my major record deal.
GANGSTASPARTY.com: 6) your future projects and when will we appreciate your next album?
HAVANA MENA: Well, I just finish a latin/hip-hop album. For those who don't know, yea I speak fluent Spanish. That album is tight-work. Probably end up licensing it out. I also finished up on my first mixtape called THE BLACKLIST. Keep a look out for that. Now I am working on my second English album, so far hummmm!!!! It's incredible. That will be coming soon as well. So I've been very, very busy.
GANGSTASPARTY.com: 7) a free message to rap/hip hop/rnb community
HAVANA MENA: Anything you do in life comes at a sacrifice, you have to work hard to get what you want out of life, the same thing applies to being an artist, to get where you want to be comes with sacrifices, hard work and dedication. If you gotta do a talent show get your ass in it, if you gotta do a free show do it, if you gotta hustle your music on the streets don't think your'e too cute or fine to do it. Get out there and hustle, you can always go home and take a bath ain't nothing wrong with a lil' sweat. Most of all stay humble, ain't nothing more embarrassing than being humiliated. If you are expecting it to fall in your lap, you are in the wrong business. The truth hurts but that's just real.
